Following the major standoff between the group of Nihangs and the administration at the Himachal Pradesh-Uttarakhand border in Dehradun, the group returned to Gurdwara Paonta Sahib in Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur, where they held a meeting with the administration.

After the meeting, Nihang jathedar Akali Jasdeep Singh said, “We did not seek a specific number of days’ time; we had only placed forth a few of our demands. They have accepted our demands and said that they agree on it.”

It has been stated that the administration gave them two days time and said they will then let them meet the Nihang Sikhs who are under house arrest.

“After we meet them and their family, we will discuss the further strategy. We will not go back as of now, as soon as the Nihang Sikhs are released and brought to us, we will go with them to Uttarakhand and then return directly to Punjab,” the Nihang jathedar said.

Sharing further details, SSP Haridwar Navneet Singh Bhullar told ANI, “They (Nihang jathedars) gave us a memorandum and it was received by ADM Dehradun. Police and administration officials sat with senior Nihangs and had a discussion. The discussion was held in a very positive atmosphere. Police and administration have assured them that there will be a fair Police investigation.”

The senior official shared that an SIT has been formed in Haridwar under the leadership of CO City.

“The allegations against the Police personnel that they indulged in manhandling are being investigated by a senior officer. They (jathedars) are satisfied with the progress we told them about. The entire administration and I are continuously in contact with them. The road is already clear and open,” Bhullar added.

This brings an end to the tensions that prevailed at the Kulhal checkpoint in the Vikasnagar area on Thursday night.

Earlier, a large group of the Sikh sect clashed with the police and pushed through security barricades to go towards Hemkund Sahib, a revered Sikh pilgrimage, in Uttarakhand, PTI reported.

Officials said that the Nihangs have called off their planned protest march related to the dispute at the Karnaprayag market in Chamoli and a gurdwara in Nagrasu.
